Topic: Control DAW input configuration when changing sample rate

Good day everyone,

I'm currenlty running a UFX+ connected to ADAT (Cranborne 500ADAT) and MADI (12MIC and Pulse 16) units.

I was wondering if there's is a posibility to maintain the 1st MADI channel visible in the same position to DAW input configuration when changing the sample rates.

This appears to be required due to ADAT channels being inserted in TotalMIX layout between native UFX+ channels and MADI channels. (ADAT channels vanish/halved when sample rate changes say from single to double speed)

Is there a way to hide 8 ADAT channels or change order of ADAT being inserted after MADI in TotalMIX?

This would prevent me from having to swap DAW input configuration files back and forth when changing sample rates to maintain my naming convention of each input.

Example:
at 48k: first MADI channel visible to DAW is 31
- 14 UFX+ native channels
- 16 ADAT
- 64 MADI

at 96k: first MADI channel visible to DAW changed to 23
- 14 UFX+ native channels remain
- 8 ADAT due to using double speed
- 32 MADI channels

Hi Kope
Unfortunately for you, the answer is no, you can't.
The channels are fix provided by the driver to the DAW.
By changing the sample rate you manipulated the driver drastically. It has to cancel out a group of channels and provide a new arrangement of the existing rest channels to the DAW.

Re: Control DAW input configuration when changing sample rate

understand. thank you for your feedback.

Is there a typical/better practice to manage DAW input configuration with MADI channels when changing sample rate, besides re-assigning inputs and names in the DAW?

I'm aware this situation is specific to setups where MADI channels are employed - but I would be curious if other users found a better workaround to handle this.

Thank you.

Re: Control DAW input configuration when changing sample rate

In Cubase you can define input and output channels for your projects.
You can also create templates for typical recording situations, also for different channels for different sample rates.

Not using it though, currently recording in 44.1 is fine for me.

Re: Control DAW input configuration when changing sample rate

Thanks for your input. Sounds similar to Studio One. In Pro Tools guess swapping the *.pio I/O files is the way to go. Unfortunately Ableton is limited in this regard - but not a big deal afterall since i'm recording modular synths in 48k anyway.
