Downgrade the (old) Babyface to firmware 225:

https://www.rme-audio.de/downloads/fut_ … f_v225.zip

to see if that makes a difference. 226 is only relevant for Apple computers and did not include any fixes.

It never did this with 226 and my Old Motherboard (my old system).

Downgrading to 225 did not change a thing!

I still have the exact same issue.

You tried any other USB port to see if the error consists?

Hi Yes. I tried all ports on my new Motherboard, same result.

As soon as I start my computer the white noise comes out.

It is something with the new MSI Motherboard combination and the chipset on the Babyface.

Re: BabyFace: White noise on startup, please help!

Even worst now. When I boot and I have the mic plugged in, I get a MIC feedback loop in my speakers as soon as I hit the power ON button on my PC!

This is driving me crazy! Please help!!!

Re: BabyFace: White noise on startup, please help!

Now this might give an explanation. In that state the Babyface is in stand-aone mode, and it seems the mic gain is set to full gain then. This would also explain the noise on start-up. Solution: follow the manual on how to adjust the mic gain to 0 when in stand-alone mode.

Re: BabyFace: White noise on startup, please help!

That is what I thought at first. But the Babyface is not in stand-alone class compliant mode. I even forced it in and outside that class compliant mode to no change.

When it boots into windows, the device is recognized and is working properly.

Only from the moment I hit power-on to the moment windows shows up that there is a problem.

It is like with my new MSI Motherboard, it is forcing the Babyface in standalone momentarily even though it is plugged to my PC usb port.

This is really really frustrating and I wake up my kids every time I start my PC!!!

Please fix it via firmware update!!!

MC did give you an explanation: before the USB port is initialized by the host and USB connection is established, the Babyface operates in stand-alone mode, in which the input gain and/or output volume have been set too high. You need to adjust the levels appropriately while the Babyface is in stand-alone mode. There is nothing to fix with a firmware update.

Re: BabyFace: White noise on startup, please help!

You should set monitoring level all the way down to zero in stand-alone mode because in stand-alone mode there is mix settings separate from Totalmix. Every time you boot up and power off your PC, the interface follows this routine: stand-alone mode -> PC mode -> stand-alone mode. According to the manual:

Using EQ in stand-alone mode
The Babyface Pro has neither controls nor memory for the DSP functions. Therefore in standalone mode EQs are not available.
There is a workaround though: when using TotalMix FX under Mac or Windows, and powering the Babyface Pro with an external power supply, pulling the USB cable will retain the whole current state, including EQs activated on all I/Os. Changing input gains and output levels as well as monitoring volume can be done directly at the unit as usual. This ‘online’ state gets lost the moment the unit loses power, it then enters the normal ‘offline’ stand-alone mode as stored in its memory (last usage in full stand-alone mode), and of course without EQs.

In PC power off process, Windows is offline first but the interface is still powered, so it remains the status in Totalmix, no white noise. Next time you power up your PC, before Windows starts, the interface loads the stand-alone mix setting. If the input gain setting is high and the stand-alone mix-mode routes input to the output, the white noise will appear.

Instructions:
1. Safely remove Babyface Pro by right clicking Safely Remove Hardware icon in taskbar.
2. Check all the mixes and turn the monitoring level all the way down to zero according to the manual:

Monitoring – MIX
The Babyface Pro uses TotalMix technology for routing/mixing in all modes. Setup:
 Use OUT to select the output for the monitoring, i.e. where the signal will be routed to
 Use IN to select the input with the signal that should be monitored
 Push MIX. The input level LEDs start to flash
 Use SELECT to choose between left, right or both channels
 Turn the encoder to set the actual monitoring level
While the setup is simplified (no panorama available) it is still very efficient and will address most needs. Also a different input can be mixed onto the same output.

Of the eight ADAT channels only channels 1/2 can be controlled from the Babyface Pro.
All settings are stored within the unit and do not get lost until the next time CC mode or stand-alone mode is used.

Ah! I might have confused stand-alone with class compliant. So in stand-almode mode the interface remembers volums and levels. Which is weird since I never used it in stand alone mode. Ever.

Instructions:
1. Safely remove Babyface Pro by right clicking Safely Remove Hardware icon in taskbar.
2. Check all the mixes and turn the monitoring level all the way down to zero according to the manual:

I will try that.

Re: BabyFace: White noise on startup, please help!

After a lot of trial and error in stand-alone (not class compliant), I was able to boot only with a click in my speakers when windows boots.

A much better improvement.

Re: BabyFace: White noise on startup, please help!

This morning, I start my PC and again the same issue! it is like the Babyface in the stand alone mode did not remember my settings, and when I powered it off, and on, it reverted to the previous settings.

Am I missing something?

Re: BabyFace: White noise on startup, please help!

I am not sure which state BF remembers to be used in standalone.... It also might be the last state just before switch off....

But anyway, it is good practice to switch on the loudspeakers as the last appliance in the chain... If you follow that, there will not be any noise at startup as it will be off....

Is it possible to disable the stand-alone mode all together?
