Topic: Common Fireface Power Supply Issue

i'd like to add....

my UFX+ PSU crapped out for the second time today since 2018. That's averaging a fix every two years!

can anyone recommend a cheaper and higher quality internal PSU than the one recommended from RME?

I'm so furious that I am thinking about dumping my UFX+, The ARC, and my two Babyfaces for the Apollo x16 and a Twin. I'm pretty fed up with the RME silent subscription.

Thanks

Of course this is strange as the RME 800 are still going strong with 10 year old PSU

There are things external that can influence the behaviour of the PSU heat water, cables, and wrong fuse can course over heating this is not what I am saying what happened but just example

It looks like your warranty is coming to an end so you can open the unit and just have a look for any capacitor that are bloating and out of shape, if so you can replace the capacitors or have a competent person to do it.

But on all I would have said your experience is not normal

Re: Common Fireface Power Supply Issue

Same here.
Back from 10 days holidays then my used UFX+ only turns on after a few long minutes, long after my MasOS has boot up. Let's say 5 or 6 minutes or maybe 10 as I can't stand being in front of UFX+ with all its lights off... i can't stand waiting for gears or computers in general but here it is quite depressing.

Hard to imagine such high priced interfaces could suffer from bad/cheap caps. I hope it's only psu capacitors...
Hoping too to not spend much $ on this considering i've already paid for these repairs on initial price (+/- 2000€). Plus here there are so much other valuable vintage (+40yo) things to be repaired. This will ruin my next weekend off. So sad.

It runs hot from the beginning. So got fresh air up and down my rack.

On a french forum I talked shit about poor psu used for Roland SRV and SDE-330 delay/reverb units. All components for psu has to be changed except regulators. But there are from mid-90... on GS forum you can see them starting to go bad after 10 years, which is quite a shame even for this kind of non-pro small fx units. 30 or 40 years old is okay for psu to failed on preamp, comps or other analogue high-end gears for 2k bucks.
RME sound in probably high-end in sound. Not their units. not like Chandler, Urei, Empirical. It pairs well with my Roland SDE-330 cheap delay.
Cheers.

I'd like to say : keep the psu. Upgrade all electrolytic capacitors.

NT RME10 for Fireface UFX+ : price 100 usd

So I tend to say this one is no use ? Or only for 10 years ?

Re: Common Fireface Power Supply Issue

I've the same issue since one week on my Fireface UFX+ what I can do? buy new power supply? buy the capacitors? where? This is a warranty problem issue? Could be repaired from RME for free? please let me know because my interface is not so old!!!

Asking the same question in different threads does not improve the solution.

Mine is in fact booting only after 15 or 20 minutes.
Maybe the issue is going much worse over time.

RME UFX+
Connected to MacOS Mojave, via Thunderbolt or USB with no more success.
A Ferrofish Pulse ADAT 16x16 is hooked up via 4 Adat cables.
My UFX+ is from 2018.

I'm a bit reluctant to open it these days to come. A bit reluctant to buy a spare psu too... so I just wait... 20 minutes... with no sound.
Cheers.

Re: Common Fireface Power Supply Issue

Eventually it will stop powering on. It's easy to swap a new PSU in for the Fireface UFX+ model, no soldering needed.

"Eventually it will stop powering on."

Amen.
I'm sure it is written somewhere in the Bible.
I'm glad getting this answer fast as it grows even faster in my mind for about an hour smile
5 min waiting for boot to come... then 10 min waiting... 20 min... 1 hour... till the end ?
Thank you for helping. I should go for RME shop with the link above.
Cheers.
