Lots of new drivers and firmware on our website:
- Firefaces Windows to 2.95
- HDSP and HDSPe series to 3.074
- Firmware updates for HDSP MADI/AES-32/9652 and HDSPe MADI/AES/RayDAT, Win, Mac Intel and Mac PPC.
There is a new firmware 1.69 for the Fireface 400, Mac and Win:
SPDIF output: Channel Status Consumer changed to IEC 60958-3 (DS/QS). QS output signal improved.
The Snow Leopard 32 and 64 bit driver for the Fireface 400 and 800 has just been released on the website. Comments see above.
Finally the Fireface 400 and 800 driver catches up with the HDSP and UC drivers. Version 2.98 for Windows includes the latest TotalMix design and features, plus lots of fixes and improvements.
This driver is also directly compatible to Windows 7. BUT: it seems the new Microsoft FireWire driver included in 7 suffers from unexpected bad performance when used with audio. Performance is really bad, operation limited, behaviour unexpected - in short: lots of problems at this time. We are in contact with MS about these issues to fix them on either our or their side.
Therefore, for the time being, please continue to use 7's legacy FW driver as explained here:
http://www.rme-audio.de/forum/viewtopic.php?id=5305
V 2.99 replaces V 2.98 which crashed at the end of the driver installation under XP.
And V 2.991 replaces V 2.99. Sorry for the trouble, but now it's really fixed!
Never say really..or so...here comes V 2.992 which no longer crashes on one computer that crashed before with 2.991. Hope it works for everyone!
Mac driver 2.64 for the Firefaces should fix the problem with standby and power on after boot in Snow Leopard.
After we got written confirmation from Microsoft that the bug that we found in their Windows 7 driver will not be fixed for (most probably) a year, we decided to use a different transfer method for the FireWire audio data, a method that we use under Mac OS X anyway and which is correctly supported under Win 7 with the new native FireWire driver.
The result is released as driver version 2.998 and firmware 2.77 (FF 800) and 1.70 (FF 400).
This combination solves all bugs and problems that the new FW driver in Win 7 caused. It has been tested on several systems and should have the same performance as the former driver.
Note that firmware 2.47 (FF 800) is no longer compatible to the new driver!
Note that there is no Mac driver or firmware update necessary, the current Mac driver can be used with both the old and new firmware.
Version 2.999 fixed a minor problem (red LED did not go off after Win64 sleep).
Version 2.9991 finally removes the MME support. MME had been implemented by a system-wide wrapper, fireface _mme.dll, that - simply said - translated MME commands to WDM commands. MME is dead as it can be, no longer supported in 64 bit OS, and therefore no longer present in the Fireface UC. As preparation for the next 3.0 driver we now removed this one too.
Now the list of available devices is more clear and easier to overlook, and one can no longer select the wrong (MME) one for system sounds and multimedia.
We also had a note from Pace who saw problems with our dll when installing their products. Note that if you had an older driver installed before and want to get rid of it completely you have to manually delete the file fireface _mme.dll, as the new driver will (can) not remove the dll. It just makes it unavailable for the current driver, but it is still in the system.
Windows driver V 2.9992 fixes the re-order problem when using multiple units under different operating systems.
Mac driver 2.65 might not be the problem solver for everyone, but works much better for many, so we decided to put it on the website officially. Note that we are still examining and working on this issue.
Mac driver 2.66 for SL will not solve the ongoing sleep issue, but includes two important fixes: noise when starting a recoding and invalid SysEx sending via MIDI.
Mac driver 2.71 for SL solves the hang when the FFs are connected after the OS has booted or slept.
Mac driver 2.72 gives improved P&P behaviour and fixes the Preset button offset in TotalMix.
Mac driver 2.73 adds the Level meter text color option to TotalMix and fixes a display problem with WC at 176.4 kHz.
The re-written Windows 7 driver 3.016 has been released as well. When using this latest MS OS please do not use the former version 2.9992.
Mac driver 2.74 adds free sample rate control for the application and the system's control panel (requested for Boom Recorder).
Windows driver 3.017 should fix the strange ASIO delay start problem seen with various DAW programs. It also allows to disable the TMS transmission, which seems to be incompatible with original Dolby Labs software.
Windows driver 3.020 greatly improves compatibility to Sonar's WDM KS mode. All bit resolutions now work (16/18/20/22/24). The only problem that continues is that everything goes hayward when changing the sample rate. For this you can wait for Microsoft's sample rate change fix (no date), or start using ASIO (today)...
Mac driver 2.75 makes the latest addition of free sample rates compatible to Logic. It can not be used with Logic, but at least Logic no longer gets irritated by the new option ;-)
Mac driver 2.83 brings lots of changes and improvements. Note the new firmware that is needed to use this driver!
- This driver requires the firmware versions 1.70 / 2.77!
- Due to incompatibilities with certain audio applications (e. g. Studio One) only the following fixed samples rates are supported by the driver (no more frequency ranges): 32000, 42336, 44056, 44100, 44144, 45937, 46080, 47952, 48000, 48048, 50000, 88200, 96000, 176400, 192000.
- Transmission format changed
- Improved low latency performance
- New driver installation script solves problems with partial install/uninstall during driver update
- New Settings dialog plist. Please check and reset your settings in the Settings dialog, the ones used with the former driver will not be active.
Windows driver 3.028 brings no changes except for the UFX. If you use the FF 800 or 400 with the former driver 3.020 you can wait for the next driver update.
Mac driver 2.85 now adds a 64 bit MIDI driver. That was some work, so hopefully nothing else got broken. It also includes TM FX v 0.915 for the UFX.
Windows driver 3.031 now brings changes for all our FireWire units:
- Bigger buffers for Double and Quad Speed in the Settings dialog
- Fixed possible hang when changing the sample rate
- Settings for the FF 400 headphone level had been reversed in the Settings dialog
- Latency can now be changed while more than one ASIO program is used (useful for a parallel operation of DIGICheck)
More to come...
Mac driver 2.86 is the same as 2.85, but also works under 10.5.8. Mac Fireface UFX users should update the unit's firmware to 333, as this one reduces the CPU load caused by TotalMix FX communication over FireWire significantly.
...and finally Mac FW driver 2.87 fixes wrong channel names of the UFX, just before the weekend ;-)
Mac drivers 1.49 (USB) and 2.88 (FW) are now released, they include TotalMix FX 0.924.
Mac driver 2.89 is now aware of more than one FireWire controller. Before, if you added another FW controller and use the RME units at that one instead of the internal one, it could have happened that Settings and TotalMix automatically close and were therefore unusable.
Win driver 3.034 has an updated TM FX help and adds two WDM ADAT channels that were missing in the UFX inf file.
Mac FireWire driver 2.90 has been released. It includes the new TM FX 0.93 for the UFX (see the USB forum for changes), and an updated TotalMix for the FF 800 and 400. The changes in the 'old' TotalMix (with more upcoming) will also be added to all other products soon:
- Added options to switch off Mackie Protocol support and Level Meters
- Level Meter data added to Mackie protocol
- Unity Gain (SEL 1-8 + DYNAMICS) did not work as intended
- Post Fader mode added (description follows)
- Direct submix selection via Control Change commands added (channel 1/2: BC 68/69 xx, channel 3/4: BC 6A/6B xx etc.)
Mac FireWire driver 2.91 completes the TotalMix update with 4 Fader Groups, Undo Load Preset and some more.
New drivers have been released with lots of changes and improvements, Win 3.046, Mac 2.92. UFX users are updated to TotalMix FX 0.941. The biggest changes are in the Windows FW driver, which for example is now fully multiclient even on the same playback channel. See driver readme for more information.
The latest Mac FireWire driver 3.0 adds performance optimizations for 10.7 (Lion).
...and version 3.01 brings TotalMix FX version 0.96. New Windows driver version is 3.062.
Mac FireWire driver 3.02 had been missing in this list, but will be replaced today by a new version including the latest TotalMix FX 0.963. That one is already added to the latest FW Windows driver 1.019. Both also support the new Fireface UCX.
New Mac FireWire driver 3.06 with TM FX 0.963 is now available for download.
New Mac FireWire driver 3.08 with TM FX 0.972 is now available for download. It includes some nice changes: Supports multi-user operation, Fixes channel order in 10.7.4 (UFX), Installer signed for 10.8. The latter means that we tested the driver successfully with the current version of 10.8, but will not officially call it 'compatible' until the final OS has been released by Apple.
Windows (3.068) and Mac (3.09) FireWire driver have been updated with the latest TotalMix FX 0.983. The Mac driver also includes a fix for SysEx data being corrupted at the MIDI input.
Mac FireWire driver 3.10 tries to fix a MIDI crash situation when there is no FireWire controller in the system. Also TotalMix FX is updated to version 0.984.
Windows driver 3.069 now includes TotalMix FX 0.984 which fixes D2D scaling problems.
The new Mac FireWire driver 3.12 includes some of the changes added to the latest Mac USB driver:
- TotalMix FX 0.985: Open GL is now allowed to use alternative renderers
- Change: Device was sometimes not removed when disconnecting it under 10.8. This also caused wrong sample rates and playback device settings on reconnection.
- Internal stream IDs optimized
Latest FireWire drivers released on our website: Windows 3.070 and Mac 3.13 with the latest TotalMix FX 0.989.
Mac FireWire driver 3.14 solves a crash situation in TotalMix when saving a preset (FF 800/400).
Windows FireWire driver 3.071 includes improvements for Windows 8 and Fireface 800/400 users, where TotalMix was not storing its preferences. Also the Settings dialog's Lock Registry option has been fixed.
