Topic: Fireface 400 Problems in Snow Leopard / Permissions Error in Console

Hi,

I sent the below support request to the support email address a week ago but disappointingly have heard nothing back.

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard (10.6.3). I get some problems when Hot Swapping my Fireface 400; my machine often freezes or doesn't connect properly to the Fireface... it looks connected from the LEDs on the front panel but won't play audio or respond to volume up/down on the keyboard and Ableton Live won't open. If I restart everything works fine. But not if I plug it in, then unplug it, then plug it back in again.

I've installed all the latest software from the website (firmware and drivers).

**I notice in the console that the startup log says "launchctl: dubious ownership on file (skipping): /Library/LaunchAgents/de.rme.audio-firefaceagent.plist"**

I've attempted to repair permissions a number of times but that message won't go away. I've also tried removing the file manually and re-installing but the permission error remains.

Permissions for that file are:

"Alex (Me) - Read & Write
staff - Read Only
everyone - Read Only"

Permissions for all other files in that folder are (like Logitech Control Center or Little Snitch):

"System - Read & Write
wheel - Read Only
everyone - Read only"

I've attempted to add the "System" user but I cannot see it when clicking the "+" button to "Add a new user/group". Frankly, there's nothing more I can do... please help!

I'm on a dual 2.8ghz MBP with 4GB Ram.

Thanks

Hi, I was hoping to hear back promptly?

I waited almost a year until 10.6.3 to upgrade to Snow Leopard so surely you guys have had time to address these issues?

Thanks

Re: Fireface 400 Problems in Snow Leopard / Permissions Error in Console

Hi, I am still waiting for support for my issue? I have emailed you twice and posted here now three times... it has been 3 weeks since I have been experiencing problems. It would seem quite clear that there is an issue with the firefaceagent file and that in all likelihood it is directly related to my hot-swapping problem (as it is some type of "LaunchAgent" and I am having my problems LAUNCHING!).

It is not my responsibility to scour your forum for support for a product you sell with the latest version of an OS you purport to make devices for. However, I am going to try the 2.67 driver and see if that makes any difference but I don't see how it would address the issue of the "firefaceagent" file having incorrect permissions.

Thanks?

Your case has been reported and commented numerous times. The permissions are not the problem, it is the hotswap with Snow Leopard. Impossible to overlook in this forum. This problem is still under investigation. Workaround: simply don't hot-swap until a fix is there.

Thanks for the response. If you want your users to realise there are specific problems however I suggest you put it out front on your website... for example, when I upgraded to Snow Leopard I went and downloaded the latest drivers from the driver section of your website. Why doesn't it say: "Warning! There are known issues hot-swapping in Snow Leopard?"

In the Forums, there is no sticky post titled: "Snow Leopard Hot Swapping Problems with Fireface 400/800". "Mac OS X Test driver 2.65 for FF 400/800" is hardly revealing of the problem.

And why do you have a support email address if you ignore it?

Regards,

Alex

Re: Fireface 400 Problems in Snow Leopard / Permissions Error in Console

It is my case also. I dont know if it is considered a "hot swap", I use the switch to "bus powered" to turn the fireface on. And I have to restart.
"Force quit" doesn't work. I would like to "sign up" for the solution smile, just not to check for any news freaquently smile thank you
