Re: distortion/clicks problems on may 2009 macbooc pro
Didn't receive reply from support for my issues regarding this. So I guess this is not considered a "serious problem". Way to get screwed out of 800 euro's..

Hello everybody,
I send an email two days ago, waiting now for a response...
Let's see if i have more chance than donaldpiret :-)
Seems I overlooked Donald's mail (sorry), but he's referring to a sleep mode issue, not distortion etc...
Mail sent.
As for performance issues, the original thread on sleep mode has turned into a discussion on performance in the meantime, and MC has replied there.
Since our tests have shown that the UC will perform very well on Macs and PCs, comments like "newer models are just unusable" serve no real purpose. It should always be considered that in most cases, performance issues that cause clicks etc. originate on the computer, not on the audio interface.

Hi Rme Team,
Since our tests have shown that the UC will perform very well on Macs and PCs, comments like "newer models are just unusable" serve no real purpose. It should always be considered that in most cases, performance issues that cause clicks etc. originate on the computer, not on the audio interface.
I think maybe you are right and of course i thought about why we don't have more user complaints here but i have tested two fireface uc on a totally clean install macbook pro and with some test of Timur (and lucaflea posts), i can say that we really have a problem with some recent macbook pro. But maybe it's an apple's hardware (or software) problem.
I know that my english is maybe not very comprehensive and maybe i made a mistake to not send an email before but please can you just answer about testing the 176.4 kHz frequency in recent macbook pro ?
i can't believe that if you test a recent unibody macbook pro two graphic cards you don't hear the problems.
Cross posted in the other thread:
We will relase a new Mac driver next week with completely re-written audio routines and full support for error correction (as under Windows). It comes with an updated firmware for the UC. Please check it out when it is available.
Cross posted in the other thread :
Thank you for the information.
I'm waiting now this new driver and firmware like the saint graal
I'm very pleased to see that this issue has gained attention at RME
As I said, I'm fully aware I shouldn't be posting to this forum since I havn't tried the FF UC for myself yet. fryingpan However, before I sepend 800 Euros on a piece of mission-critical hardware, I always go and have a look at the official forums before I spend the money. Even though I understand that this isn't the official support channel, the fact that not a single user reported a flawlessly functionning UC + the fact that no RME "official" reacted for months made me suspicious.
That being said, I really hope the new firmware/drivers will resolve titirom's issues.
Also, now that my confidence in the RME Support is back, I think I'll try to get a FF UC for testing so that I can post a well-founded report :-)
Thank you so far, RME
Mike
Even though I understand that this isn't the official support channel, the fact that not a single user reported a flawlessly functionning UC (...) reacted for months made me suspicious.
Users with flawlessly working systems don't tend to report that on forums a lot, unfortunately.
Statistically, looking at the content of my support email inbox, not a single RME product would appear to work... :-O fryingpan
But then, users without problems also don't usually write emails to tech support.
Did you see our list of tested systems?

Daniel,
I was kinda expecting that response, and I fully agree, a forum isn't representative for a product's quality, for exactly the reasons you mentioned. Unfortunately, if it's the only perspective someone gets (as the "real" support, which is via eMail, isn't visible to the public and as the "Support" page suggests having a look at the forums), that perspective can horribly falsify the perception someone gets from a product or a customer support. I don't want to over-defend my first post in this topic, my point is: You should have a look at what's happening in the forums on a regular basis because they're a big part of the "perceived" image. If anything, I hope this incident helped you better understand why such a perception emerges...
That being said, rest assured that I'll report back to this topic as soon as I have a chance to test an actual UC on my 2 Mac systems, especially if it works. I wouldn't want to be the first one screaming but the last one reporting...
And yes, I've seen the list of tested systems and I embrace the transparency this provides to customers!
Best regards,
Mike
Hi guys,
Thank you for yours interresting commentaries.
I add for the defense of RME that all company have not an onboard forum, but the last post of netmickey was pertinent.
Unfortunately, if it's the only perspective someone gets (as the "real" support, which is via eMail, isn't visible to the public and as the "Support" page suggests having a look at the forums),
Our support email contact is publicly visible on our support page and we do not reject pre-sales questions of technical nature etc.
Obviously, we need to point out that local support specialists are available in case of problems or warranty issues, and that many basic questions are covered in FAQs and forum topics.
that perspective can horribly falsify the perception someone gets from a product or a customer support.
A support forum is bound to be full of problems, that's what it is there for. Many of them turn out to be issues of third party hardware or software. Maybe we need another forum for praise and success stories...

We certainly do so, or is that not your impression?

Well, maybe you should... If I'd found *one* post about a functioning UC on a recent MacBookPro, I'd certainly be less alarmed than I was

Well, in this particular case, not, at least until now This thread is opened since mid-november 2009 and the first 'official' reaction from admin knut was mid-march 2010 (and was a reaction to my freaked-out post ). But the fact that we chat about it now proves you point, and all in all it's a good thing
If we can now isolate and work out the problems reported by titirom, this will be a win-win
Regards,
Mike
Well, I think that effectively a little feedback earlier would have been nice (for exemple, for the 176.4 kHz frequency commentaries) but the new driver and firmware coming up seems prove that the problems (in the two threads) had be take in count and this is the most important.
And again netmickey, thank you for your participation and commentaries .
Hello
I have fireface UC one day, and after 20 minutes of using i have distorshion. Now I use Live 8 on windows vista bootcamp on iMac 20' 2,66 ghz 3gb ram Early 2008 MB324RS/A. RME it's not good on Mac... because previously I had fireface 400 and he had similar sounds. Representative rme in my country explained this bad firewire chip production agere on all Mac after 2008 . I was hoping that with uc these problems will not recur. I sold fireface 400 lost $ 350 to buy a new uc, but the problems did not disappear ... I want my money back!!!! or a real solution to this problem.
"The Fireface UC is a brand-new product of the year 2009, i.e. with latest technology, and works best with current computers." it's very fun
on my iMac sounds appear at use of the processor from 60 %
Here is the new Mac driver for the UC with new error routines for testing.
best regards
Knut
Well, I'd would like to say here thank you to all contributors, and a special thanks to Timur and netmickey.
With all contributions, we have now a better driver (but not perfect).
The bug adventure continue on the "New Mac driver for FF UC including error state detection" thread.
Thanks to RME team for work on the problem and do a specific driver and I hope you do soon a perfect driver.
