Topic: Differences between ADI 8 DS and ADI 8 DSB (Broadcast)

Hi,

I've seen 2 versions of the ADI8 DS in stores/dealers :

- normal version
- broadcast version

I didn't see any information on the 2nd one in RME website.

What are the technical/feature differences between those units ?

Thank you

Broadcast versions have +6 dBU instead of +4...

Thanks for your answer.

Can you detail  a bit more (not to be confusing) : Are both inputs and outputs have +2dB of headroom (means +21dBu max instead of +19dBu) ? I have to say that 19dBu max input is not enough for a lot of professionnal gear (my preamps can provide up to +24dBu max (@+4dBu nominal) and, sometimes more) and I must "under-modulate" preamps to fit AD dynamic range of my soundcard (Digi002Rack/ 18dBu max@4dbu nominal).

If I invest in external converters, I'd be glad to have more headroom on the inputs.

That's why broadcast version could be interesting to me...

I finally found some info on the local Dealer website (SCV France) they're talking about additionnal 9db on the output (only ?) but it is not very accurate (does it mean outs at 19dBu + 9dB = 28dBu max ? or +13dBu max (+4dBu out setting) + 9 =+22dBu)

Re: Differences between ADI 8 DS and ADI 8 DSB (Broadcast)

German broadcast uses +6 dBu with 9 dB headroom (+15 dBu). The DS ships +4 dBu with 9 dB headroom (+13 dBu), so the mod makes the +4 setting 2 db less sensitive, for both in and out. We are not talking SMPTE here. If so get the ADI-8 QS.

Ok, thank you for the precisions. So you're talking about the +4dBu mode of the ADI-8DS.
So you confirm +21dBu max in hi gain mode in the ADI8-DSB instead of +19dBu in the ADI8-DS?

(Sorry to insist but I need to be sure)

NB : The ADI8-QS seems great but out of my budget (and I will use the converter with a digi002R so I'm still stuck with 48k with ADAT and won't use either 96k nor 192k mode)...

Additionnal question :

Is it possible to internally modify input/output sensitivity inside RME converter units (ie ADI-2, ADI-8 DS), via analog trimmer or jumper ?
