Topic: FF800 - Driver issue - Have to reinstall it on each use

Hi

First post in this forum… excuse my french english (at least better than my french president…).
I use FF800 on a MacBook Pro (10.6.4) with firewire 800.

Everything works fine except that when shut down my computer and reopen it the day after, the FF800 didn't see the host (the little red LED is lighted), Fireface Settings and Mixer opened (as expected) but the sample rate in the Fireface Settings is wrong.

Each time, I had to reinstall the driver. This solution fix the problem but it would be great to use the FF800 without reinstalling again and again the driver.

Thanks by advance for all your support.

Pas mal du tout...

Eh bien....

Each time, I had to reinstall the driver. This solution fix the problem but it would be great to use the FF800 without reinstalling again and again the driver.

Have you tried updating to 10.6.6 or whatever is the latest? And is the driver up to date?

Hi Daniel
Thanks for your answer.
The driver and the flash of the FF800 are up to date.

Re: FF800 - Driver issue - Have to reinstall it on each use

Hi Daniel
Sorry, but I have still the same problem.
I update Mac OS and the FF800 is up to date.
This week-end I'd used the laptop without the FF800 and today, when I turn on the ff800 and the computer, the FF800 still have the red host led light on, Fireface Mixer and Fireface Settings popup normally, except that the system clock shows a Freq. at -1851512 !
Again, I have to reinstall the drivers to fix the problem.
It looks like the laptop lose a "piece" of the driver when I use the laptop without the FF800 ???
Thanks by advance for all your help.

I´m no mac expert, but on a friends mac, repairing permissions of the system disc fixed issues like this.

Re: FF800 - Driver issue - Have to reinstall it on each use

Hi Vincent
Thanks for your advice. I've run Onyx this night to repair all the mac permissions. But this morning, the problem still here : the FF800 doesn't found the host and I have to reinstall the drivers to fix this...

Just to be sure, here is how I turn on / off my installation, is this correct ?
1. Connect Fireface & Computer (I use firewire 800 on the direct port on the MacBook Pro)
2. Turn on the Fireface
3. Turn on the computer

For turning off, I do the inverse :
1. Turn off the computer
2. Turn off the fireface

Thanks by advance for all your help

You might overlook the obvious. Does the serial number stay the same?

Re: FF800 - Driver issue - Have to reinstall it on each use

Hi
Thanks to all for your help.
I check the serial number shows on the Fireface Settings and here's the result :

1st session - FF800 is working : Unit #66597513 v2,77
2nd session : I use the computer without the FF800 (I use the built-in one)
3nd session - FF800 Not Working : Unit #66597513 v0,0
4rd session - After reinstalling - FF800 is working : Unit #66597513 v2,77

So, the serial number stay the same but not the flash version (v2,77 becoming v0,0)...
Maybe a clue. Should I update again the flash of the FF800 ?
But the problem was yet here before I update the flash version to 2,77.

Have you tried another FW cable?

Re: FF800 - Driver issue - Have to reinstall it on each use

Hi
After 3 days without using the fireface (i work at home with the built-in), I changed the firewire 800 cable... I cross the fingers... but nothing. Same problem (no host led and wrong freq in the FF800 settings). Again, I had to reinstall the driver, shut down and restart the computer and everything work well...
Help !!!!!!! this "one shot driver" is becoming quite annoying for this professionnel hardware...
Thanks to all for your help.

Re: FF800 - Driver issue - Have to reinstall it on each use

The firmware version not read correctly shows that the FireWire communication is broken. You should have the unit serviced.

Re: FF800 - Driver issue - Have to reinstall it on each use

Hi MC
Do you mean that I should send back the FF800 unit to RME for they repair the Firewire chipset ?
Thanks

That's what he meant. Before you do, can you test the FF with another computer?

Re: FF800 - Driver issue - Have to reinstall it on each use

Hi
I'hadn't the time to test on my PPC but it seems that the new driver (2,91) solved the problem.
Since I've updated the driver from 2,9 to 2,91 I've made several switch between use the MacBook with or without the FF800 and Laptop & FF800 recognize each others. The host led turn off, the frequency is stable, the device version too.
I don't know what you've done in this update but it seems to work !
I don't know for what, but many thanks...
