Topic: ADI-2 Connection to Laptop USB or PCMCIA
Greetings to All,
I have a large vinyl collection that would like to copy to digital format. There are some low and high cost USB hardware options, but the ADI-2 seems to have a number of advantages.
I'm not crazy about going with anything that will take a turntable phono input directly, I don't see how it could have a better phono stage than my Audio Research SP-16. From my preamp I can go with an unbalanced line output from a tape out jack. If I need to convert from unbalanced to balanced, I'm OK with that.
The issue seems to be with connection to a laptop. Connection can be with a PCMCIA card or to a USB port.
If I want to use the ADI-2, it doesn't seem to have the Cardbus connector for the RME ExpressCard, that seems to connect only to other multi-channel digital interfaces, and I only need two channels.
The other option seems to be using the SPDIF or ADAT digital outputs from the ADI-2 to the laptop, but I have not found any type of interface card that will do that, at least not with a PCMCIA format.
It does seem odd that the ADI-2 does not have the RME bus protocol connection so that the ExpressCard can be used, or am I missing something?
I can't be the first person who wants to do this, can I?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am aware of standalone 2 channel ADC's made by others that will connect directly to a USB 2.0 port, but I do like the specification and clean design of the ADI-2.
Thank You,
Stephen
