Topic: New drivers with TotalMix FX 0.96

New drivers are now available:

Win 1.013:
https://archiv.rme-audio.de/download/driver_usb_win.zip

Mac 1.62:
https://archiv.rme-audio.de/download/driver_usb_mac.zip

TotalMix FX has been updated to 0.96, which includes some nice new features.

UFX: Dynamic meters shown besides the normal level meters. This feature requires the latest firmware with DSP version 1.44. The Dynamic meters can be configured in the Preferences dialog (F2) in three steps.

- Compressor/Expander. The Gain reduction from the Compressor and Expander settings is shown.

- Include Gain setting. When activated the 'makeup gain', set by the GAIN knob in the Compressor section, is shown as well. If Compressor/Expander is unchecked then this option is not available.

- Auto Level. When activated the amplification/reduction of the gain caused by the Auto Level process is shown.

This is a highly flexible setup and allows you to set the meters in the way you prefer them to work. To see the overall influence of all processes on the audio signal simply check all options. If you prefer to check the gain reduction of the Compressor/Expander only, like it is usually displayed on standard hardware units, then uncheck 'Include Gain setting'.

Note that due to Gain and the Auto Level working as both amplifier and attenuator, the Dynamic meters can (have to) show positive values too. Note also that the Dynamic meters are scaled exactly like the level meters, which are scaled like the fader track. Move the fader around to see where typical values are. The grey lines in the background are at -3, -6, -9, -12, -18 dB...

Babyface: Here we reworked the Speaker B function, making it super-comfortable and user-friendly by adding an option in the TM FX Key Command menu to control it with the left Select button on the Babyface. Additionally the function now works much better, so when using 'Link' Speaker B has the wheel (volume), Dim, Mono, Recall etc. working as expected. Try it, it's simply wonderful with two speaker sets, but also when you want to switch quickly between speakers and your phones! Please note that this function is limited to AN 1/2 and the Phones outs. SPDIF and ADAT are not supported.

Re: New drivers with TotalMix FX 0.96

Matthias,
Thanks for the further development in this regard.
But I have 2 comments.
1) in the release notes for the version it says "SPDIF and ADAT are not supported." what does it mean?
2) the Ability to use DIM only for the selected output is still missing. I could only change both MAIN and "B" or "MAIN".
And I would like to have the possibility of selecting Pnones not changed DIM "MAIN" volume.
For example one pair of monitors plays for the musicians, and the second one for me. And I want to mute the volume only for the selected output, but not for both.

Is it possible to add this option in the settings?

Thank you!
I've been waiting for this.

Re: New drivers with TotalMix FX 0.96

1. Exactly that. Try to assign them as Main or Phones and see what happens.
2. Sorry, this will not be added to the BF. If you have that specific need use an external passive volume controller. They are cheap and have Dim/Mute functionality.

Re: New drivers with TotalMix FX 0.96

if you have that specific need use an external passive volume controller.

Why should I buy a extra device?
If I have at hand a convenient interface that could do the simple and logical function.
It is enough just to finish check box in the settings.
Approximately so: "Use DIM/RECALL separately for MAIN and HeadPhones -YES/NO"
I would Like to see in the future this option.

And it is not clear why SPDIF excluded from this option, the device was marketed as a professional interface, and each time the trade-offs, tips on buying external devices and so on...

Dude chill out!
Have you not looked at the feature set you are getting with the babyface? Or listened to the converters?
You are getting an interface with UFX level AD/DA, a 10 x 12 routing matrix. Oh and a bunch of effects and comps. For under $800 US.
You also realise that there is only a limited amount of room on the device for instructions?
But if there is another device out there that does all the babyface does for the same money, please point me towards it.

Peace,

Re: New drivers with TotalMix FX 0.96

isaac,

So, what all these your words?
It is a device with such a rich functionality may not do some of the simplest things, the implementation of which stopped only the reluctance of programmers add one check box.
In my opinion if the client requests and his request is logical and does not require the cost to fix it you need to add!

If they can yes, if they have time, yes, if the basic function (i.e. recording and playing audio) works on virtually ever system yes.
You do realise that it is an Audio interface right?
And there is only a limited amount of resource on the unit to implement features. All of these features take up space.
Of course these are my words, whose other than mine would they be?
I'm assuming you are an experienced programmer since you know how easy it is to implement these things.
Have you even asked why this cannot be implemented? Whether it is on the future list?
How many companies have the person that designed the product answering questions on their forum?

Peace out,

Isaac P

Re: New drivers with TotalMix FX 0.96

isaac,

Don't misunderstand me.
I can select the type of output (the button on the interface) and adjusted using the volume.
For each of the selected output.
When you press the wheel function is activated DIM.
My logic, please, to DIM as the volume worked for the selected output, and not for the MAIN or both at once.

Re: New drivers with TotalMix FX 0.96

Hi Mathias. What this new driver will add to Fireface UC? Need I to use that or mantain my old one? Best Regards.

The usual small bug fixes and improvements. Go with it...

Re: New drivers with TotalMix FX 0.96

MC, thanks for the value added to RME products by such active support.
1) I am still advocating for MIDI selection of submix Cue. This would instantly monitor that now active submix at the press of a controller button, e.g. programmed into a Behringer F2000.
2) Also, is there any plan for the host PC being able to access thru its USB connection to the UFX the external drive connected to the front panel USB, and thereby upload its audio files to the PC without reconnecting (and wear)?  Vielen Dank...

Re: New drivers with TotalMix FX 0.96

1) is on our list, but no date available.
2) is technically impossible, sorry.

Re: New drivers with TotalMix FX 0.96

Hello Matthias,

One quick question about FF UFX.

Is it possible to pair AN2 and AN3 as a stereo input?

If it is technically impossible, please say so, and I'll give up the hope. It's that simple.
Let me know anyway. Thanks!

Re: New drivers with TotalMix FX 0.96

That is basically possible but a hell of complicated routines in both software and hardware to implement it. Therefore we had planned from the beginning not to support this. Sorry.

Re: New drivers with TotalMix FX 0.96

Thanks for the updates Matthias. Great as usual smile

A small question about connected HD via the USB port:
I'm using a 450GB HD for DURec.
When I delete a recorded file (from the front panel or from TMFX), it takes several seconds for each file while the unit is counting the new free space. When I connect the HD to a PC and delete these files, it's much faster.
Can you please check whether you can improve or optimize this?
Thanks.

Re: New drivers with TotalMix FX 0.96

This is already the optimized version, or you would wait as long as when you connect the drive first (full initialization).

Re: New drivers with TotalMix FX 0.96

And still, deletion is much faster when connected to a PC .
Thanks anyway smile

Thanks Matthias.
At least it's good to know, you don't have the plan. Then, I will just use as it is, without wondering "what if???" kind of mentality.

Re: New drivers with TotalMix FX 0.96

Hi Matthias,

Just installed the new driver. Cool feature, thanks!

Is it true though that, when using the option to change between speaker B and normal main out, that on the babyface itself I can't choose the inputs anymore? The top green light which indicates that the volume of line in 1/2 can be adjusted is skipped; it goes straight to main out (second green light). When I switch of this feature, everything works and also the green light is 'available'.

Best regards,

Re: New drivers with TotalMix FX 0.96

Yes, that is normal and already described in the current Babyface manual. Page 57, Key Commands.
