Topic: FF400 Clicks and Other Strange Things

Hi

I have a problem with my FF400 and after search a lot into foruns, etc for a possible solution without luck, decided to post here...

So basically i have clicks on sound. Sometimes feels like the unit is "crashing".. This happens for example, with my Prophet 08 with high resonance, even with the volume set to almost the minimum on the synth.

Here's what i detected when those clips occur:

- Green leds Signal on channels 1 and 2 of the hardware light up
- In the Fireface Settings, the clock dialog changes automaticly and back right after for the pre-selected preference. Let's say, the clock changes from Master to Slave, and back again to Master.
- If i record something from a turntable, and one of those occurs, the recorded track sounds slowed down at that part.

This also happens in standalone mode and I have to keep all the volumes on my hardware next to 0 to avoid this kind of clicks

I'm on a mac 10.6.8

Any help will be really appreciated
Thanks

Hi,
we need more information about your system.
What software do you use?
Do you have any digital equipment such SPDIF or ADAT devices plugged into your FF400?
If so then what are the devices?
Do you have any other firewire devices attached to the system?

Thanks Chris

Hi Chris

What software do you use? Ableton Live 8 (but the problem also occurs in standalone mode)
Do you have any digital equipment such SPDIF or ADAT devices plugged into your FF400? No
Do you have any other firewire devices attached to the system? No, only Usb devices

Sound a bit like the Firewire connection might be broken. What Mac model are you using and did you try another cable?

Thanks for the reply

I am running some tests, and seems like the Prophet08 and sometimes the turntables are the only gear causing this. The Prophet makes the FF crash, make noise etc, when the filter resonance is more higher, really annoying..
Other synths are ok..

I am running Osx 10.6.8

Just figured out that the only inputs causing this are 3 and 4. Is also happening with other gear, not only Prophet08.
Maybe the interface have some problem on those inputs?

Re: FF400 Clicks and Other Strange Things

Use an external power supply to rule out power problems from bus powering. Additionally a (unusual) ground loop might interrupt FireWire communication. Can you check grounding of all units involved? And make sure the ground between computer and FF400 is perfect. A different FW cable might make the difference.
