Topic: Micstasy remote control problem: can only control 1 unit

I have two demo Micstasys for testing.

Here is my chain:

Yamaha 01v96v2 MIDI in/out -> RME ADI-648 fiber out -> Micstasy #1 fiber out -> Micstasy #2 back to -> ADI-648.

Micstasy #1 has internal clock selected, Micstasy #2 clock source via MADI.

Micstasy #1 has Auto ID on, ID 1 and bank 1.
Micstasy #2 has auto ID off, ID 2 and bank 1.

I am using the following SYSeX commands to have the faders control gain for channel 1: F0 00 20 0D 68 00 20 00 FAD 01 00 F7 END
And for channel 9: F0 00 20 0D 68 01 20 00 FAD 01 00 F7 END

Doing so, control of Micstasy #1 works as it should, no problems. BUT: I get no response from Micstasy #2.

If i plug a MIDI cable directly from the mixer to Micstasy #2 and change the remote option from OPTN to MIDI, remote control via the 01v96v2 works.

I've also tried using a computer with a MIDI interface and get the same results: it doesn't work when trying to control via chained MADI, but it does work with a direct MIDI connection.

Please let me know what needs to be done to get control of more than one unit via MIDI over MADI.

Thanks!

David

That should work. Please try with manual ID setting instead of Auto ID. Are these 'demo' units new, means have a current firmware?

Re: Micstasy remote control problem: can only control 1 unit

No luck with manual ID setting.

Both units show firmware 2.1 on bootup.

Re: Micstasy remote control problem: can only control 1 unit

Also, in testing with the MIDI Remote software, I don't get meter level readouts, if that's helpful in troubleshooting.

And one more note: when I connect directly via MIDI with the software, I do get meter level readouts in the software.

Re: Micstasy remote control problem: can only control 1 unit

connect the midi-output and the midi-input of every unit (apart from the unit you connect to your o1v) -> Micstasy #1 into Micstasy #1, Micstasy #2 into Micstays #2. This way you´ll get level feedback also smile
The units do not loop through midi - at least my two adi648 don´t.

Re: Micstasy remote control problem: can only control 1 unit

The ADI-648 does not feed MIDI-over-MADI in to MIDI-over-MADI out, but the Micstasys do.

Re: Micstasy remote control problem: can only control 1 unit

Hence the above setup should work if done correctly.

Re: Micstasy remote control problem: can only control 1 unit

And so what can I do to set it up correctly...?

Re: Micstasy remote control problem: can only control 1 unit

Shall I assume that no reply indicates there is nothing to be done to get the units functioning?

David,

have you tried to swap the two Micstasies?
It sounds like one of the demo units is not completely ok.
You could also check what comes out of the MIDI DIN socket on unit #2 using a MIDI interface and a tool like SendSX.

Best regards,
Stephan

Re: Micstasy remote control problem: can only control 1 unit

At the moment I think we've narrowed it down to a possible bad MADI card. Will followup once I get a replacement to test.

Re: Micstasy remote control problem: can only control 1 unit

The replacement MADI card fixed it. This is good news!
