Topic: Fireface 800 + Windows 7 driver issues

I recently picked up a Fireface 800 and I have run into some major issues with the driver on the PC side.

I have a Gateway I7 desktop running windows 7 64bit with 8GB ram and a Lacie Ti firewire card.

I keep getting the yellow triangle in the device manager. When I click fireface 800 in the device manager, I keep getting:

"Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)"

I've done multiple installs of the firewire driver (legacy and Ti) with the Lacie card.
I've even installed the original VIA Firewire card and did multiple driver revisions and they all work fine with other audio interfaces but not the Fireface. (fyi, I know how to completely uninstall drivers and software)

There is nothing wrong with the fireface 800 hardware itself. I installed it on my macbook pro and it runs great.

I really need this to work on my pc because it's my mix machine.

Thanks,

Paul

Re: Fireface 800 + Windows 7 driver issues

Hi Did you follow the install instructions for Windows 7?
Certain steps in the process if missed can make the process fail.

Also are you able to try the TI FW express card on the MAC.
If the firewire card is not inserted correctly it can cause all kinds of odd behavior.

Also more info on your Gateway hardware would be helpful,

Thanks Chris

Re: Fireface 800 + Windows 7 driver issues

Followed those instructions to a T.

The Lacie Ti card is a pcie desktop card so I can't try it on a macbook pro.

Pretty standard I7 desktop. no mods or overclocking or any of that nonsense going on around here. pretty much out of the box.
She works great with other interfaces.

Driver verification is the culprit here.

RME's driver doesn't play nice with windows 7 64 bit IMO. which seems to be the common error from I've read on the net.

I hope they're working on a new driver. I know a few who have returned their fireface units because of this. Looks like I could be next.

Re: Fireface 800 + Windows 7 driver issues

There are certainly no general issues of the FF driver in W7/64...
You did not mention, however, which version of the driver you have installed, or I didn't see it.

Re: Fireface 800 + Windows 7 driver issues

Tried all three.

The archived one along with the other 2 on the pulldown of the downloads page.

Re: Fireface 800 + Windows 7 driver issues

Any help with this?

No problems moving from XP to Win 7 pro ult 64-bit here, Paul.

Which exact version/s of the driver have you tried? Have you tried manual removal of all files and reinstallaion of the latest one only?

Re: Fireface 800 + Windows 7 driver issues

Try a full and clean removal of all Fireface drivers. To do that you need to do the following steps:

- Uninstall RME drivers via "Programs and Feature" Control Panel, then reboot.
- After reboot Windows will install older version drivers.
- Open Windows' "Device Manager", go to "Sound, video and game controllers" and find the Fireface entry.
- Right-click on the Fireface entry and choose "Uninstall". When asked if to remove the driver files, choose "Yes".
- Reboot again. Windows should not install any more drivers for the Fireface but show it with a yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager (probably naming it as generic "Multimedia device").

Now download the latest RME driver and try installing it clean, don't forget to reboot afterwards. Latest driver is 3.067 and can be found here: https://archiv.rme-audio.de/download/win_fire_3067.zip

It needs the most current firmware (!), which can be found here, but should already be running (it's from 2009): https://archiv.rme-audio.de/download/fu … re_800.zip

Re: Fireface 800 + Windows 7 driver issues

I've tried all three drivers with a full removal of each one. Going to try again tonight.

So should I avoid the previous 2 drivers and just focus on the latest one? I've had some luck with previous hardware issues by installing older drivers.

Keeping in mind I'm on Win 7 64bit.

It's sees the FF but like I said in a previous post, I get the "verify driver error.

Thanks,

Paul

Re: Fireface 800 + Windows 7 driver issues

I am using 3.067 at the moment, but had no problems with any previous Fireface driver concerning driver verification. I am on Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate for quite some time now and previously was on Windows Vista 64-bit (also tried some 32-bit for the fun of it wink).

My account has administrative rights (which still is less than using "as Administrator"). Are you using a restricted user account maybe?

Also keep in mind that "full removal" means to use the Device Manager "Uninstall" process in addition to the Control Panel removal.

Once I get to this stage the computer places the fireface in a separate heading called "other devices"  and calls it an "unknown device"
It doesn't give me the option to remove driver files. It allows me to unistall only. On multiple reboots it still shows up.

Re: Fireface 800 + Windows 7 driver issues

Then Windows already got rid of all drivers, else it would show up as usable device with some older (previously installed) driver in use.

Try to create a new user account with administrative rights and install the driver from there. Maybe (hopefully) something just got messed up with your specific account as far as rights are concerned. You could also try an installation with UAC (user account control) turned off. It's usually not necessary, but obviously something on your system doesn't agree.
