Topic: RME Babyface Dropping Audio

I have come across a new problem with my Babyface. Often times when using the BF simply as iTunes audio playback, the BF will glitch for a second then go silent. iTunes will continue to show that it is playing, and System Preferences shows that the BF is still plugged in. Also, Totalmix does not say that the BF is disconnected, but it is not passing any audio, and the level meters in Totalmix are not moving. If I switch audio outputs in System Preferences and then switch back to the BF, or sometimes if I simply stop iTunes from playing for a couple seconds, and then resume playing, it will start to pass audio again. I am on 10.8.1, and have the latest drives and Firmware for the BF, and I am using the double USB cable that came with the unit, plugged into both USB ports. This has never happend before with any other audio interface, and I have been listening to iTunes for many years smile

Yep, me too - exactly the same, has done since I bought it.

Babyface + most recent drivers and TotalMix etc.

Plain Vanilla iMac, 2.7 Ghz, 4gig ram, OSX 10.7.4  (it happened in OSX 10.6 as well).
Haven't been that impressed with this occurrence.
Would be good to find out why, seemingly very specific to iTunes. (a buffer ?)

EDIT: With me it is just a drop out, then audio returns. Drop out approximately 2 seconds. This also happens when using Amarra with itunes.

Is there anyone out there that can shed some light on this issue? I've owned the BF for 5 months, and up to this point it has been the most expensive, and BY FAR the most problematic interface I've ever owned. (Even my cheap 7 year old M-Audio Firewire 410 has had less problems).

I am shocked that I am having issues with RME gear, and even more shocked that no one seems to have an answer.

Does it happen also with the latest Mac OS driver? 1.76?

Yes same problem here. It ocurs when the cpu is under high load (iMac i5, driver 1.76), for example rendering or video encoding. Seen this with any audioplayback with iTunes, vlc or plex. In iTunes it helpes to stop the playback, switch to another view (i.e. store) and back to get playback again working. Unplug an start the babyface again also helps.
