Topic: ADI-2 Noise on D/A output

Hello everybody.
Recently, I got used rme adi-2 mainly for mixing down from my analog board.
First I was having some sample rate mismatch problem that im still trying to fix, I can only use 32khz without streatching sthe sample, but that is  robably soundcard settings, software issue.

Another problem occured when i tried to insert hardware eq to my stereomix (cubase -> m-audio audiophile soundcard -> via spdif - adi-2 d/a -> hardware eq -> adi-2 a/d via spdif ->m-audio card -> back to cubase

Insted of eq'd stereo signal, i got some nasty noise. I found the noise comes out of the d/a converter. Its a loud high pitch noise, some of the original signal comes through it, but very little.
I was suspecting my diy spdif breakout cable between soundcard and adi-2, I have resoldered it but no change, Im not a  soldering master, but it looked fine.

Im getting thoughts that d/a conversters may be damaged...I really hope that its something else...
I try to link samples, so you can hear how it sounds like. Do you know any sites for uploading mp3's that allow steaming (so you dont have to download it)

I hope someone will help...
thank you

Re: ADI-2 Noise on D/A output

Most likely you have some wrong settings between the M-Audio unit and ADI-2, please provide the settings for each unit.

Re: ADI-2 Noise on D/A output

Adi-2 is set: (from left to right)

-10db, 44.1, coax, con, -10db. Spdif cable connected to the rca sockets in the rear.

M-audio soundcard is set to external clock via spdif

Other settings:

There is not much settings for soundcard, I think I tried changing everything.

There is is also this: (Asio advanced settings)

Here is samples of the noise that is killing me:

I hope this info will do.

Re: ADI-2 Noise on D/A output

To check the ADI-2: Connect coax in to coax out. Now the analog input signal must be heard undistorted at the analog output.

Re: ADI-2 Noise on D/A output

Hello,
you write that the ADI-2 is set to external clock via spdif.
But on the other hand you have set the soundcard to external clock.

This could be the problem:
Try setting the M-audio card "internal clock" and leave the ADI-2 to Coax.

In case you want the ADI-2 to be your master clock you need to connect both directions spdif, so one spdif cable from ADI-2 Coax out to M-Audio coax in and one cables from ADI-2 Coax in to M-Audio Coax out.
Then you can set the M-Audio to "external clock" and (!) you must have set the adi-2 clock source to internal.
The bad thing about this setting is that you always have to set the samplerate on the ADI-2. In case you run different Samplerateprojects (e.g. video-edit on 48khz, older multitrack-recording on 44.1, never recordings on 96) you always have to set the approprivate samplerate on ADI-2.

Hope that helps.

No he did not. 44.1 means internal clock.

Sorry for a late reply, I was away.

Anyway, I did the test you mentioned:

and I still have noise. Im starting to worry, that this could be adi-2 malunction. Are there any other options? Should I give it to my local tech, or send it to germany to repair? (If they do that) I bought it used off ebay and dont have guarantee.
