Topic: Problem (SOLVED): MADI-Sync with Micstasy - Octamic XTC - Madiface XT

Hello
I'm a happy owner of a new Madiface XT and also of a new Octamic XTC
Madiface XT and Octamic XTC work well together over MADI.
But my Micstasy in the circle has obviously problems with the sync-function.
I used it as ID 01 (Auto ID on) and as ID 02 (slave).
The sync function (Optn) works always some minutes and then it obviously lose the signal... in any case the "Optn-LED" begins
to flash and the Sync-LED on the I64 MADI-Card turns off.

Since I use the "Always Single Speed" with all the equipments it seems to be a little better but nevertheless it doesn't work for more than 3 minutes.

One last Info:
I bought the I64-MADI-Card together with Madiface and Octamic. So I don't know whether it works correctly or not.
I repeat myself: Octamic together with Madiface - no problem

Please give exact description of cabling and clock settings of all units, including the used sample rate.

OK, There are lots of things to know. I've prepared a pdf with all the facts.
http://www.musik-produktion-createc.ch/ … micXTC.pdf

The story's update:
This morning I switched on the whole system and it worked properly for nearly 3 hours.
Then again: The "Optn-LED" suddenly started to flash and the Sync-LED on the I64 MADI-Card turned off.

So now I believe that's a "thermischer Fehler" because the Micstasy is quite warm after 3 hours... ("hot" isn't wrong as well)

Thanks in advance for your feedback
Beat

BTW: The photos are from the "running period" today.

Just used a ventilator and blowed  at the back of Micstasy. 3 minutes later: Sync works!
I will try to simulate this error once more.

Are my setups OK?
What do you think about the "termischer Fehler"?

Still not sure whether it's a thermal matter or not.
The synchronization works sometimes, sometimes not...
It isn't possible to get reproducing conditions in any case.

Re: Problem (SOLVED): MADI-Sync with Micstasy - Octamic XTC - Madiface XT

You did not mention the cabling - Micstasy gets optical or coaxial MADI at the input? And did you try different cabling?

Working in Single Speed means that the setting for 'Word Clock Always Single Speed' doesn't change anything. And you don't use Word Clock at all.

Also the other settings (ID...) will not influence the problem you see, and that is basic signal detection and locking on that signal.

When the Micstasy unlocks, will it lock then to the XTC signal? You have to set the XTC to Internal for that test. Then cable back to the XT - lock or not? This way you could check if the XT's MADI output gives the problem (provided the used cable is in perfect condition).

No loop setup needed for that test - it is just about finding if the input or the output is the problem.

Thanks Matthias for your support so far.
I will check out your hints and tips.
BTW: I used the optical cabling - the one I need to use for my recordings later on as soon as possible.

Re: Problem (SOLVED): MADI-Sync with Micstasy - Octamic XTC - Madiface XT

With optical cabling you have to try a different cable and carefully inspect the optical input of the Micstasy with a magnifier. Yes, we did get units to repair that had dirt in there...

OK, I checked the Card - no dirt so far (because it's a brand new card out of the plastic bag and finally the box).
Further, I connected the Micstasy (ID01) with the MADIface XT (alone).
Micstasy can find a synchronization but suddenly after some minutes it flashes and some minutes later it obviously finds a way back to sync again and so on.
This matter happens either with Single Speed or without, either with 88,2 kHz or with 44,1 kHz and with other different setups.

When I connect the Octamix XTC (same cable, same changes of parameters) I get a synchronization at any time without any problem.
(How I expect it from RME)

So I believe that the "new installed" MADI-Card or the Micstasy in combination with it doesn't make its job as it should.
I will visit the customer service in Switzerland...

Re: Problem (SOLVED): MADI-Sync with Micstasy - Octamic XTC - Madiface XT

And the XTC syncs always on the XT's output? Then it would point to the i64 card...still strange...

Re: Problem (SOLVED): MADI-Sync with Micstasy - Octamic XTC - Madiface XT

Problem solved!

I was invited by MusicNetwork (RME Agency in Switzerland) to bring the whole system (MADIface XT-Micstasy-Octamic-LapTop) for checking it over all.
MusicNetwork tested the equipment two days... finally it was the MadiCard I64.
After exchanging it the "MADI-composite" works now splendid.

A +++ for the crew of MusicNetwork!!!
They have been so kind to me all the time and their support was excellently.
So a big "Thank You" to Wolfgang and Marcel.
