Topic: Question about MADI cables, MIDI over MADI and word clock cable.

Dear RME, I've some questions about the length of MADI and RG59 cables.

Up to now I've used a 50m MADI cable 50/125 (orange) to record audio and carry the MIDI data. The word clock signal is generated from a word clock generator and trasmitted using a 50m of RG59 cable. It works very well but now I need to cover a distance of 100m.

- Is 100m of MADI cable able to carry MIDI data without errors?
- Is 100m of RG59 cable able to carry word clock signal without demaging the audio quality?
- I use a 10m of RG59 to connect the DAW and 50m to connect the stage box (Micstasy), is the difference of length a problem?
- If I use a 100m of MADI cable to cover a distance of 50m and a 50m of RG59 cable for word clock, can I have some    problems (sync errors)?
- Does MIDI over MADI need a 62.5/125 instead of 50/125 optical fiber?

Thanks,

G.

Re: Question about MADI cables, MIDI over MADI and word clock cable.

1. You refer to optical cable which covers 2,000 m.
2. Yes, although I would prefer to feed WC to the unit sending MADI (computer card?). I don't know your setup, but WC might be not needed at all.
3. No. Again, WC here is not needed at all between DAW and Micstasy.
4. No.
5. No. Both can be used up to 2,000 m.
