Topic: UFX+ occasionally locking up

Hi all. I have a new UFX+ and there have been a couple of times (most recently, last night) when it has completely “locked up” i.e. I’ll be using it with my MacBook Pro and MainStage when suddenly, it will emit a horrible, very loud electronic “knocking” sound on the selected synth patch and if I change patches, there will be no sound at all. I don’t think it’s the MacBook Pro or MainStage because I can see that things are still being processed correctly i.e. signal levels are displayed and fluctuating normally, MainStage continues to function correctly etc. It seems like my UFX+ is simply locking up. It has only happened twice (and thank goodness, only in rehearsals) but it’d be incredibly bad if this happened at a gig. The first time it happened, I thought it was just a fluke glitch but twice in two months is now worrying me.

Does anyone have any ideas?

UFX+ is run with what interface? Unplug that and replug it, not rebooting the UFX+. I bet audio will work again. Because the UFX+ does not lock up, but macOS audio transmission does. There are several threads here discussing such kind of issues.

The UFX+ IS the interface, connected to my MacBook via Thunderbolt cable.

MC (or anyone else), I’ve tried to find posts relating to the issue I’ve experienced but can’t find anything. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I’ve never experienced anything like this before and I’ve been using MacBook Pro machines and MainStage for well over a decade. The UFX+ is the only device in my rig that’s different.

So Thunderbolt is the interface (not USB 3). You might try USB 3 instead, but I doubt it will help. Examples of Threads:

I could try that. I’ve also just realised that this issue has occurred on two different MacBook Pro 16” machines.....Apple just replaced my machine because it was running so hot and that didn’t seem normal.

No external monitor.  I've heard about that issue but I only use the MBP standalone.

MC, I've read through the threads you mentioned but don't really feel that the issues are the same.  Next time the problem occurs, I'll make sure to check Console to see if there are any hints as to what happened.
