Topic: FF 802 - should I switch to USB?
Running my 802 via Firewire on an AMD Ryzen 5 with an Asrock Taichi x750, 32 Gb memory. I see the new Totalmix is USB only. Should I jump ship?

Hi
What exactly is 'the new Totalmix'?
You can download TM FX and update only that...

May I ask what did you see where?
TotalMix FX is independent of the underlying driver, there is no TM FX for USB, Firewire, PCIe.
As MC told, you can download the latest version of TM FX and replace the binary in c:\windows\system32

Absolutely right.

Totalmix as a download does not appear to exist : TotalMix FX is included as part of the driver (check supported devices). After you’ve downloaded, installed the latest driver and connected your interface, the mixer window will open automatically.
These are not credible solutions to the question of why the package for FW has not been updated, even if the driver is the same?
Same old crowd on this forum . . . don't read, don't listen.
Let me try to explain.
Firewire is legacy technology and is no longer supported by Microsoft and Apple. If nothing changes in the driver itself, there is no reason to update the driver just because a new TM FX binary has been released.
In such a case, it is easier to download the latest TM FX binary, as MC already told you in posting #3.

As troutstudio also writes, it’s not easy to find the installer to download.

There are several ways to get the latest TM FX.
1. TotalMix FX single file from the download section
From the usual download section on the RME web server, https://www.rme-audio.de/downloads.html, you can get it as a single file download, see the next two screenshots:
After selecting TM FW single file download (latest version), you are getting the download page with detailed information and installation instructions:
2. TotalMix FX single file from announcements in the forum
Occasionally, you are also seeing stickies in the Forum introducing new versions (Beta and Release).
Examples from the TotalMix Subsection of the RME Forum:
a) Typical announcement in the Forum https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?id=37958
b) Introduction of new features which require a new TM FX version https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?id=38691
Each announcement contains instructions on how to install the single file on Windows and on macOS.

Then my recommendation to troutstudio is to use USB; otherwise you are stuck to an old Firewire driver.
USB driver has the same quality, and you get the additional advantage of being able to perform firmware upgrades,
which is only possible via USB and an installed USB driver.

Peinlich…! Stupid me, of course it’s that simple, but one have to scroll down the list until letter T for TotalMix.
Please simply ignore my post!
