Topic: [Solved] UCX II Power Jack is Horrible (Same Problem as UC)

I just upgraded from UC to UCX II.  Brand new unit, plugged it in and no power.  Green light on cable is on.  Then I remembered I had this issue with my UC after light use.  I jiggled the power input cable downward and it worked.  The input connector is broken / loose.

RME is such a high quality product.  How can they not design a better power jack?  Seems they pack so much into a small box with frail components.  The power jack needs to be able to last over years of use.  This happened to my UC after about one year of use after I bought it in 2011.  This UCX II is brand new and didn't work the very first time.  There is no way the input jack should break when I carefully plug in the power cord.

RME, you need to redesign your input jack.  It needs to be solid.  Now I need to go through the inconvenience of returning the product.

Hello!

Quote from manual, page 10:

The  connector  at  the  power  supply  and  the  socket  at  the  unit  come
with  a  turn  to  lock  feature.  When  inserting  the  connector  make
sure the little wings are aligned correctly so that the connector is
fully inserted
. Then turn the connector so that it is locked and can no
longer  be  removed.  If  not  fully  inserted  the  connection  will  be  loose
and cause power loss when the cable is moved.

Did you follow these instructions? Maybe your power jack is not faulty!

Thank you for the reply.  Well that was embarrassing.  My bad.  There was no manual in the box and I assumed it was like every other device I've ever owned, where the plug just goes in.  It did lock in.

I actually to read manuals but have to admit not the power jack section.  Thanks again.  My mistake.

Hey!
You 're welcome!

No harm done!
Power jack type can be, easily, overlooked! And when a detail like this needs special mention in the manual, we can be sure that the device itself is of the highest level of quality!

Plus, it 's a good thing that you posted, because now, you can enjoy the UCX II without delays! smile

Gotta say, I came across the same thing.... The power adapter was being really dodgy and I thought "surely not...". Found this post and realised that no, RME have gone beyond the call and implemented a twist-lock power adapter to ensure there is absolutely no way that our sessions will be interrupted.

I have to say, I've only had this unit (UCX II) less than 24 hours and it has completely blown my mind.. Enough to feel the need to comment on this post. RME are incredible.... Sound quality, drivers, ease of use, Total Mix, input/output considerations... I'm speechless. Worth every penny in my opinion.

Hi James,

I had similar feelings when I migrated from Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56 to RME UFX.

May I give you a few tips ? I put together some things in this sticky, which I need otherwise to type in again and again:

There you find links to some useful blog articles where I put together interesting information for a good 1st time setup and links to excellent RME videos, that do not spoil time and bring it to the point quickly.

Additionally I can also recommend this tool, to be able to open and close TM FX and the driver settings window with keyboard macros, brings also a very nice functionality to your setup: https://www.tonstudio-forum.de/blog/ind … ndruck-DE/

Enjoy your new toy :-)

Thank you for an interesting thread. I have a related question which The manual does not specifically target: Will the power plug be locked forever or are you supposed to be able to unlock and unplug? (I have not been able to unplug.)

Twist and pull.
You have to rotate it to the right position and pull hard.
It is not snapping or popping out.
