Re: DigiCheck NG for Windows – first beta public release - now available

Yesterday I had big update day, I updated UCXII usb driver (the only working way was uninstall old and install new), new Jriver 31 player, manual update to Windows 10 22H2 and I also installed DC NG.

Very nice upgrade for DC, thank you. But playback stability problems started to appear. Max in 5 minutes some kind of dropout or like reseting asio device or disappearing for half a second. Once even blue screen. I have never experienced something like this before with old DC.
So I stopped using DC NG and from that moment no other dropouts, everything worked very well.
Machine is powerful Intel with 6 cores and hyperthreading running on 4GHz.

I will try to test it again in the evening if it is still the same.

And one suggestion - would it be possible to configure in Totalmix function for starting DC NG with configurable button on ARC USB? Like currently pressing button and show/hide TM on top. I know it is not so simple because it is not part of TM, different paths, not already running, and so on. But could be helpful when running something in fullscreen. Not so important, just nice to have.

Nice, very usefull - as apparently i m slowly turning blind, while aging.

Thank you RME!

Thank you so much for this, I'm excited to try it. I REALLY hope there is a chance that in the future you can make it support direct output, rather than only asio. I need a way to analyse the main windows output when working on game audio mixes. Most of the video game sounds designers I know use rme interfaces, so having the new Digicheck be useful for this would be great.

Thanks!

I have some corrections and findings.
As I said before after driver update and other update everything worked perfectly even after several reboots except DC NG making problems.
Next day after cold reboot - no ASIO devices anymore. Uff... I was really angry. Today I did:
Disconnect UCXII,
COLD reboot, Device Manager- show hidden devices, uninstall UCX driver,
COLD reboot - check device manager if driver is really out
COLD reboot - install latest usb driver
COLD reboot - connect UCX
Now everything works perfectly. DC NG has no problems now.
So problem was that new usb driver installation was not perfect for some reason.
Before I did only standard built-in reboot. You must do COLD reboot -  switch off (shutdown) wait manually switch on.

You seem to misunderstand how DigiCheck works. If you do a playback, it doesn't matter if it is via WDM or ASIO - DC can still receive the playback data via ASIO. This is a special feature of our driver and DigiCheck (old and new).

Re: DigiCheck NG for Windows – first beta public release - now available

Thanks for making an updated version of DigiCheck for Windows.

One issue I've seen is that the bottom labels, as well as scale, of the spectral analyzer is disappearing when I make it vertically smaller. This for DigiCheck 0.61 Beta where I've changed the display range to 60 dB.

I'm using Windows 10 Pro, version 22H2. My GPU is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 using driver 531.41.

You guys are amazing engineers! Didn't doubt for a second that we would get version for Windows as well :)

You've always outdone yourselves and everyone else regarding your drivers and TotalMix is very stable and light, so DigiCheck NG was always going to be amazing.
I'll be sure to test this thoroughly as well when I have the time.

Thank you!

Ah yes, now that I've been able to download this and test it, it wasn't clear from that note about asio exclusivity what that meant. I'm able to use this as I'd hoped, so that's great!

I've had one crash running Win11 on a high spec, recent machine. Trying to track down the issue and see if it can be fixed with your previous suggestion. Will update if I can reproduce it. When it crashed I had a 'Returned 887A0001 AT 202' ERROR.

Re: DigiCheck NG for Windows – first beta public release - now available

Hi There!

I am just curious, will this work in older Windows 7 64bit also?I tried digicheckng_win_061b and when I start the program it said "The procedure entry point CreateDXGIFactory2 could not be located in the dynamic link library dxgi.dll"

Thank You for the answer, and best wishes!

Could there be a global setting audio, which defaults if the instrument settings are not setup? (i.e. the WDM output in the driver?)
Further really impressive! like it a lot!

Re: DigiCheck NG for Windows – first beta public release - now available

DigiCheck NG bugs/feature requests:

- vector scope has L/R audio inputs swapped!!!
- peak level measuring is off compared to old DigiCheck and other level metering tools
- vector scope optically clips the drawn signal (auto-gain compressor/limiter not working fast enough?)
- impossible to have multiple DigiCheck NG instances running at the same time
- no true infinite peak hold for peak level reading
- horizontal peak meter stuck with lower dB limit of -50 dB (should go lower than that)
- feature request: getting rid of scale readings on one of the two sides of the graph to save space
- feature request: option to have the same layout as in old Totalizer
- feature request: keyboard shortcut options as with old DigiCheck (like CTRL+H to reset spectrum analyzer peaks)

Basicly get a newer €300 GPU or use the old version of DigiCheck.
I run a Geforce GTX760 with uptodate driver and get the same error
Really hope RME will be able to make it work anytime soon :-/

Re: DigiCheck NG for Windows – first beta public release - now available

I was able to install and use the new DigiCheck NG on my Win 10 Desktop (with BabyFace Pro FS). The graphics are a lot cleaner and I could follow the new functionality layout without difficulty.
However one of the uses I had for the old DigiCheck (5.96) was to record audio files from e.g. YouTube in the default .wav format, use AnyAudio Converter to change the file to mp3 and then load it into my iTunes playlist (typically to learn a new song for my covers band)...
Unfortunately I couldn`t find the Global Record function in the NG version, so I re-installed the old 5.96 and am happier now.
Is it coming in NG, the Global Record functionality or am I just blind?

Cheers
Plank

Re: DigiCheck NG for Windows – first beta public release - now available

I'm not certain, but you can install both versions in parallel without issues and use global record from DC 5.96.

The opinion of RME is that they do not want to bloat the new software and keep it as compact as possible wich in turn leaves a good working DAW system hanging with the older software. I run a very well contained and suboptimized system with windows 10 and an older Nvidia GTX 760 GPU and will just like you, as it is now, not be able to benefit from the new DigiCheck NG without investing in new hardware. Big disaponment of course and hopefully RME will reconcider and make a build that works for not only the latest hardwarehost. All other sofware i run, both old and new works perfectly so it's not feasible to buy new new stuff just to get some meters working.  I'ts kind of the market benefit of RME that their interfaces and peripheral sofware work with almost everything at alltimes.
Keeping fingers crossed that DIGIcheck NG will work for me in the near future.

The graphics used in DigiCheck NG for Windows is very simple, really, but you've decided on using graphics features not found on older CPU's when implementing it. That does not affect me as I use a only a few years old NVIDIA GPU, though.

As for Windows 11: CPUs just a few years old are not supported for Windows 11, and they work just fine otherwise on Windows 10, but Microsoft decided otherwise. I suspect Microsoft will backtrack on this when Windows 10 approaches EOL October 2025, or extend Windows 10 lifetime with more updates.

My soon 10 year old PC is still working fine for what I use it for, running Windows 10 Pro.

Re: DigiCheck NG for Windows – first beta public release - now available

Great upgrade, thanks RME!
At a first glance I can't see the Global Record function. Am I missing something?
Please don't get rid of it, include it in future versions.

79

Re: DigiCheck NG for Windows – first beta public release - now available

Global Record should be available later.

Regarding the graphics issue: it seems that so far there is (only) exactly one graphics routine not working on older GPUs. In that case we will try to add a workaround in the next version which should not be too complicated and won't screw our code.

Re: DigiCheck NG for Windows – first beta public release - now available

Hmm I've tried getting DG NG to work on 3 PC's now, although none of them are newer than 2018 systems. None of them have decent graphics cards either- but one uses windows 11 and is a £800 machine.
It would be useful to have an idea of what specifications are necessary to allow DG NG to work; I don't think its' all down to the graphics card capability. The dude who posted previously (and others) seems to have a decent PC... and they're unable to get it to function.
This is what beta testing is for, right? Eventually RME will get this issue straightened out, or at least nail the settings  one should adjust to get it working on all Windows machines. Pinpoint the tickbox we may have overlooked, etc.  Cos I doubt they can make allowances for every possible video setting that unassociated programs  make incur (i.e; making tweaks in the video processing your computer does without you being aware of it, cos it has permissions to do so) But I have faith in their developers sorting this out.
