Topic: ADI 2 DAC FS / 2 computers

Is it possible somehow, to use the RME ADI 2 DAC FS on 2 computers
I have 2 PC's, one display, and I'm using some KMV switch, for keyboard and mouse
I wish I could use something similar, for the RME ADI 2 DAC FS, on both computers
Thank you in advance

Re: ADI 2 DAC FS / 2 computers

Has one of the computers a digital audio output onboard ?

Re: ADI 2 DAC FS / 2 computers

It doesn’t make much sense to switch ADI-2’s USB connection if switching back and forth happens quite often.

Get a USB to Optical interface for one of the computers.
Now you can switch between both computers by selecting USB/Optical inputs on ADI-2’s remote.

Re: ADI 2 DAC FS / 2 computers

There’s an Optical out on both of them, so you can choose which one to use.

For the 1st motherboard:

The information is very similar for the 2nd motherboard.

• Get an Optical cable, plug it into one of the computers and ADI-2.
• Plug the supplied USB cable into the other computer and ADI-2.
• Select USB or Optical on the ADI-2 IR Remote for listening.

There’s a good chance this already works without further configuration.

Re: ADI 2 DAC FS / 2 computers

Thank you so much, guys
Is there a sound quality difference between the USB and Optical inputs?

Re: ADI 2 DAC FS / 2 computers

No. If you should need DSD -> USB.

or just this one ??

Re: ADI 2 DAC FS / 2 computers

The Toslink Optisches Digital Audiokabel only would help if one of the computers has a Toslink out connector. Some desktop or tower computers have one, not very common. Laptops usually haven't.

If your Computer hasn't, Cubilux USB A zu TOSLINK Optisches Adapter, USB A zu SPDIF Digitalkonverter would add one Toslink out. It supports up to 192 KHz/24 Bit: https://www.amazon.de/Cubilux-Optisches … B0B2DBGKL3

The Tackston USB-auf-optischer Audio-Adapter, unidirektionaler USB-A auf SPDIF-Toslink-Soundkarte includes an optical adapter, but it is limited to 48 kHz.

Re: ADI 2 DAC FS / 2 computers

You have an optical output on both computers (the mainboards you linked above in posting #4).

Why do you want to get some USB to TOSLINK converter additionally if it is not needed?

KaiS told you already three times what you can do (posting #3, #5, #9).

And you seem to have understood this in posting #10. But why now this cable? I don't understand this.

Here an ASCII drawing that hopefully clarifies KaiS proposal for you:

Computer A ---USB-------------------------USB---ADI-2 DAC FS
                                                                        +
                                                                       /
Computer B---SPDIF(o)--------------SPDIF(o)--+

So, you will play back audio either via Computer A over USB or via Computer B via optical SPDIF.
With the remote control of the ADI-2 DAC FS you can switch between its two inputs, USB or SPDIF,
to listen to audio either from computer A or B.

All that you might need to buy is a TOSLINK cable like this to connect computer B and the ADI-2 DAC FS:

Re: ADI 2 DAC FS / 2 computers

Thank you, I ordered it the cable

Re: ADI 2 DAC FS / 2 computers

I received the cable, but unfortunately I can't make it work
I unplugged - plugged in the cable, many times, in the ADI DAC Fs and on the Mainboard.
Selected OPTICAL from the remote control. It shows " optical" on the ADI DAC 2 display.
I installed the driver but can't install the ADI Remote software
Error code is 2503
Do I need to do some further settings, maybe?

Re: ADI 2 DAC FS / 2 computers

What does not work exactly?
Do you speak of ADI-2 Remote? It needs an USB connection to work, it won't work via optical SPDIF.

If we use the known diagram, it needs to be installed on Computer A.

Computer A ---USB-------------------------USB---ADI-2 DAC FS
- Audio playback via USB                                     /
- ADI-2 Remote                                                  /
- Firmware updates via fut                               /
  needs MADIface driver                                  /
                                                                      /
Computer B---SPDIF(o)-------------SPDIF(o)--+
- Audio playback via optical SPDIF

Prerequisite to work: ADI-2 DAC FS needs at least firmware: USB 81, DSP 61.

If you should need to upgrade the firmware, this is only possible using the fut utility through USB
and it has as prerequisite, that the MADIface ASIO driver must be installed.

Re: ADI 2 DAC FS / 2 computers

ramses wrote:

Audio from computer A via USB or from computer B via optical SPDIF?
Lets stick to the names from the diagram, computer A and B.

Computer A ---USB-------------------------USB---ADI-2 DAC FS
                                                                        +
                                                                       /
Computer B---SPDIF(o)--------------SPDIF(o)--+

ADI-2 Remote needs to be installed on the computer which has a USB connection to the ADI-2 DAC FS.
Is this clear to you and is this the case here?

The Firmware minimum requirements are: ADI-2 DAC: USB 81, DSP 61.

If you should need to upgrade the firmware, this is only possible using the fut utility through USB
and it has as prerequisite, that the MADIface ASIO driver must be installed.

So it boils down to this

Computer A ---USB-------------------------USB---ADI-2 DAC FS
- Audio playback via USB                                    /
- ADI-2 Remote                                                  /
- Firmware updates via fut                               /
  needs MADIface driver                                  /
                                                                      /
Computer B---SPDIF(o)-------------SPDIF(o)--+
- Audio playback via optical SPDIF

Computer A ---USB-------------------------USB---ADI-2 DAC FS is working perfectly

Computer B---SPDIF(o)--------------SPDIF(o)--+      not at all
ADI 2 DAC FS is not recognized
Right now Im on the computer B
Let's ignore the computer A, because PC A it's working fine
I attached a printscreen from computer B -- here are all the details, when I open the fut file

https://postimg.cc/v1vqttXY

Can you please, have a look ?
Should i switch to computer A, to make the firmware update via fut ??

Re: ADI 2 DAC FS / 2 computers

> Computer A ---USB-------------------------USB---ADI-2 DAC FS is working perfectly

What does this mean? Do you mean Audio Playback via USB and ADI-2 Remote (only possible via USB).

Note: "ADI-2 Remote" can only work over USB, so on Computer A. (plus has the mentioned firmware minimum requirements).

What is not working on computer B?
ADI-2 Remote can't work here, as it would need an USB connection to ADI-2 DAC FS.
Here you have only the TOSLINK connection for audio (and nothing else).
Does it work for Audio?
You might need to switch the audio source at the ADI-2 DAC FS as KaiS wrote.

EDIT: I rephrased my posting #17 that you quoted, please re-read, thanks.

Re: ADI 2 DAC FS / 2 computers

On computer B, ADI 2 DAC FS is not recognized at all
I know, I understand, with USB, on computer A, I can use the ADI Remote
Yes, I already switched the audio source to ADI 2 DAC FS, I selected OPTICAL

Re: ADI 2 DAC FS / 2 computers

Just did a short test, out of curiosity
Connected the RME USB cable straight into the KWM Switch, there are 4 USB inputs ( mouse, keyboard, printer, etc)
I unplugged the Optical cable.
Everything is fine, now I don't have to change from USB to Optical, when I switch from computer A to computer B
Theoretically, I'm connected to both computers, via USB
But I still can't install the ADI Remote software to computer B
Why that?
As I said, everything else is fine ( computer B )
Tested from Amp player, YouTube etc.
I just hoped I can use the ADI Remote software
Any advices are welcome, thank you
