Topic: Strange Finding, need advice or clarification please.
Preface: I'm using an RME Babyface Pro FS, Windows 11. By default, when loading totalmix for the first time in the bottom right corner it says "Main" only and when you click "Assign" (to the right of the "Main" tab, where it says "Dim, Recall, Speaker B, etc), "Main Out" is set to "PH 3/4" and everything else is set to "None".
I wish I could attach images to this to show but basically I came across this strange finding where if I go down to "Main" , click assign and set "Main out" to "AN 1/2" and "Phones 1" to "PH 3/4" , the soundstage literally widens in both my headphones and my monitors and the sound sounds different (maybe better) More Spacious, and perceived detail. When I switch back it sounds find but narrower and more pleasing to my ears/less fatiguing. Weird I know.
I have created a snapshot of each setting so I can instantly A/B them and there genuinely is a difference.
I'm looking for a recommended way to route this or have this as it was intended. Which one should I go for by default. I implore you to try this and let me know or if a staff member knows how it should be set up from the jump. Thanks very much. I can provide images or my custom snapshots also.
Edit: Forgot to mention, I also have my WDM Devices set to 1
