Re: New macOS RME HDSPe series driver – public beta test (1.07)

Hi !

Just tried to install 1.07 & then 1.12 for my Digiface + ExpressCard (with Sonnet adapter), but the HDSPe Settings app immediately closes for both firmware versions, and the Digiface doesn't show up in Audio MIDI Setup, TotalMix or HALLab, or any audio apps.

Any idea how to fix this or what the cause might be?  I see others in this thread have also mentioned the settings app not opening.  Kernel driver 4.25 works fine.

Thanks.

Some details:

macOS Monterey 12.7.5, intel iMac 9900K

Firmware v21 (DriverKit Compat.) - Was updated with FUT 3.14

IORegistryExplorer shows 2 IOUserServer entries, and a PCI... entry

SIP Disabled

I also have a UFX III and UCX I which are working fine with their ASP + DriverKit driver

Can send Console logs that happen when HDSPe Settings app immediately closes

Logic 10.7.2 - macOS Monterey 12.7.5
HDSPe Digiface via ExpressCard Adapter
Fireface UFX III & UCX I

Re: New macOS RME HDSPe series driver – public beta test (1.07)

Forgot to say that if I type "systemextensionsctl list" in Terminal, the following lines for the Digiface are displayed:

de.rme-audio.dkhdspe (1.1.2/12)    de.rme-audio.dkhdspe    [terminated waiting to uninstall on reboot]
de.rme-audio.dkhdspe (1.1.2/12)    de.rme-audio.dkhdspe    [activated enabled]

And there are 2 corresponding folders/entries containing a "de.rme-audio.dkhdspe.dext" file in /Library/SystemExtensions

Also, there is an "RMEHDSPeAsp.driver" driver showing in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL

Fireface UFX III & UCX I

Re: New macOS RME HDSPe series driver – public beta test (1.07)

Hello,

Could you help me?

I did the firmware update and now my HDSPe MADI FX card is no longer recognized by my Mac Pro which is on OSX 10.14 (Mojave).

What should I do to make the card accessible again by my Mac Pro? I tried to reinstall the 1.28 driver but nothing happens.

Thanks in advance

Re: New macOS RME HDSPe series driver – public beta test (1.07)

Current DriverKit version is 1.13. 1.28 is an outdated KE driver that won't work with a DriverKit firmware. The latest 1.34 would do so, but as it is KE it requires to reduce system security, so better use 1.13.

Thanks for your answer.

I tried to install the driver version 1.13 but my Mac Pro still does not see the card (I restarted my Mac). However it worked perfectly before.

Do you think that an even older driver than 1.13 is needed ?

Re: New macOS RME HDSPe series driver – public beta test (1.07)

No. We should clarify what eactly you did: you updated the firmware to which version, with which tool? Is this a rev 1 or rev 2 card? And what Mac Pro is that exactly?

Re: New macOS RME HDSPe series driver – public beta test (1.07)

  • The tool I used to update the firmware is the HDSPe FX Flash Update V.1.35

The HDSPe MADI FX card is at version Rev 1.2

The Mac Pro is a Mac 5.1 from mid 2012 with two 2 x 3.46 GHz 6 Core Intel Xeon processors and with 128 GB of memory

The last driver i installed is the HDSPe dk 113

HDSPe FX Settings installed at version 1.28

    Totalmix installed at version 1.64

I hope you have all the information.

Thanks in advance for your help

Re: New macOS RME HDSPe series driver – public beta test (1.07)

Apple's OS version numbers/names are a mess. You have 10.14.6 (Mojave). As clearly stated in the readme the HDSPe DriverKit driver requires macOS 12 (Monterey). So 1.13 will not work. You have to use a Kernel Extension driver, which understands the DK driver firmware. I assume that you had flashed the DK firmware 92, which then caused the card to no longer work with driver 1.28

A compatible driver is Kernel Extension driver v1.34. Please install that one:

Re: New macOS RME HDSPe series driver – public beta test (1.07)

Unfortunately, it is impossible to install the v1.34 driver, the Mac is on OSX 10.14.6 (Mojave) and installing the v1.34 driver requires at least OSX 11 or later.

Is there another solution?

I was wondering if re-flashing the card (which is currently on Version 92. DriverKit comp.) to 91. Legacy could solve the problem?

I tested the card on a Windows system, and on Windows it works. I could see that it now has a Driver date: 10/18/2024 Version: 2.26

Re: New macOS RME HDSPe series driver – public beta test (1.07)

1.32 seems to be the first one that's DK firmware compatible, but also requires OS11. So it seems you are a bit stuck and may indeed need to downgrade the firmware, if I'm not overlooking something.

Hello,

Do you have the solution to downgrade the firmware ?

Thanks

Re: New macOS RME HDSPe series driver – public beta test (1.07)

The current Windows FUT includes a switch to 'downgrade' to v91.

Hello Matthias,

Good news, re-flashing the card to version 91. Legacy worked!!

Thanks a lot for your help.
