Topic: Saving volume settings

Hello,

I use TotalMix 1.8.5 on Win10.
I have a Fireface UC and simple needs:
- when working with my DAW I switch TotalMix to DAW mode (Options -> Operational Mode)
- when I use the Fireface without my DAW I switch it to Full Mode

Unfortunately the Volume settings for all Hardware Input channels and for all Software Playback channels get reset to -inf when switching from Full Mode to DAW Mode and then back to Full Mode. Even if I recall a snapshot, to which I stored all the desired volume settings.

Would it be possible to change the Snapshot save data in such way that I can recall them even after switching modes back and forth?

Of course, I do not expect the same settings that I made in Full Mode to be present in DAW Mode. However, I would like to have total recall once I go back to Full Mode and select my snapshot.

Re: Saving volume settings

That's not possible, sorry. These modes were not intended to be switched all the time.

Re: Saving volume settings

This was before MC's posting, so lets forget about these two things, but the 3rd one will solve your issues.

1. Did you try saving and restoring workspaces? This normally saves everything including routing and windows positions.

2. You could also try whether you can restore by using Quick Workspace Select Slots. Save "Full mode" to e.g. "slot 1" and "DAW mode" to slot 2 and then you can try to toggle between these two modes using the key combination ALT-1 and ALT-2.

3. What will definitively work: in full mode you can get the same routing as in DAW mode with one mouse click, see here:

DAW mode is at the end of the day only the routing of the SW playback channel to the corresponding HW output.
This you can simply store to a snapshot like you do already with different routings in Full Mode.
And you keep the flexibility to do some extra routings in case it would be needed.

Thanks for the quick reply. I like the DAW mode as it just removes everything from TM that I don't need when I work in my DAW. I guess I will have to adapt my ways.

BTW - big fan of RME since Hammerfall days. It took me more than 20 years to find a reason to contact you. :-)

Thanks for the tipp. I guess that'll be what I'll do from now on.

I have now followed the advice given by ramses and I am pretty much set for now.

However, regarding your statement that it is not possible to store volume settings of each channel I would like to give some food for thought:

Imagine a customer sets up different mixes on their interface, using all 8 snapshots for this.
Then, maybe a year after doing this, they switch to DAW mode for a couple of days, then switch back to full mode.
Then they realize that all 8 snapshots are basically useless and they have to start setting up everything again.

As I said, just food for thought for possible future development of TotalMix FX.

Anyone who uses Snapshots should know that these are only stored in a Workspace. You learn this quicker than one year...
