Topic: Hide channel issue

I have a puzzling problem here which struck me out of the blue. This have just worked before.

with UCXII and tmfx v1.93

I want to hide a single mono channel. I go through "channel layout" menu. Analog 4 disappear as intended. I have saved to snapshot, layout and workspace.

When I change snapshot to another and back the channel just pops back. Setting lost..

channel three is in use and ganged to main out. This is problem number two. ch 3/4 is split, only ch3 in use. I gang ch3 and and 1/2 this is ok all marked yellow, hit fadergroup 2 and channel 4 is automatically included(marked blue like 1,2 and 3) It doesnt move with the others though.

Ive read manual every way, but behaviour seems erratic from how I understand the manual

Re: Hide channel issue

Please update the driver and test again, this one doesn't seem to be the latest version.

Re: Hide channel issue

It still does the same. No problem hiding stereo channels. Mono channel just refuse. If I reload the workspace ch4 is hidden. Switching snapshots and back make it come back

Re: Hide channel issue

Happy_amateur,
maybe you overlooked that snaps only save stereo/mono while the visible/invisible states are saved in layouts?

After switching from snap1 (with mono channels) to snap2 (stereo channels) and back to snap1 - of course the previous hidden mono channel was shown again.
But then, after activating the layout again (where the second mono channel was hidden before) it disappeared. -> for me ok, no difference... or did i misunderstood sth?

I tested it here on Mac - with 1.93 and the current 1.97...
Both versions behave exactly the same....

You see the problem. Im not at home to check now. This is what happens to me too. Hitting layout fixes it, but it wasnt a problem before, and now it only seems to apply for mono channels. Stereo visible states behaves as expected when change snap. Is this so? This has been set and forget for a quite a while. Im gonna make a scrap start and sort out saving hierarchy once and for all. The problem came after I did some streamlining to tm so. The workspace snap layout regime, is a bit out of ordinary procedure for workflow for me.

Re: Hide channel issue

@Happy_Amateur: collapsing or hiding of channels are stored in Layout Presets, not in a TotalMix FX snapshot and
is being saved in or restored by a workspace file or workspace quick select.

TotalMix FX will remember the current settings and if it quits (or when rebooting your computer)
this last state is being written into the file last.<recordinginterfacename><number>.xml.

On the next reboot, this file is being loaded again and you will see the same state.

I stored my usual Channel Layout in Layout Preset 1 as "Used Ch" (Used Channels) because I hide some not needed.
Along with that, you also save the state of Channels, whether collapsed or not or to show EQ and what not.
You can always come back to this view of channels by clicking to this Layout Preset and from this on it is being used.
If you change the view, then this is persistent, even if using a different Snapshot.

When restoring a Workspace by loading a workspace file or by using Workspace Quick Select (ALT-1..n (n=1-9),
then the channel state is being shown in the state when you stored the workspace.

What is stored where is explained in my blog article, it also explains how to make backups,
or how you can restore quickly after changing something using Workspace Quick select:
https://www.tonstudio-forum.de/blog/ent … nd-backup/

Then a general remark

Please tell the firmware, driver, and TM FX version explicitly to be clear in communication.

"Latest driver" is not suitable for troubleshooting, as you might be wrong. Furthermore, after some time, the latest is not the latest anymore. If somebody reads this after weeks or months, then "latest driver" is worthless.

Proposal

If you think you have an issue, I would make and test using the latest firmware, driver, and software versions.

TM FX is bundled with the driver.
After driver installation, check whether the installed version of TM FX is really the latest 1.97.
If not, install it manually, the download link you find in the forum.
https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?id=40049

You need to quit TM FX first before you can rename it to TotalMixFX-<version>.exe.
I would not delete the old version, this way you can always quit TM FX and use a later version for comparison if needed.
